we are the champions

We Are the Champions brings together a series of sculptural works based on sporting objects — tennis rackets, basketballs, rugby balls, footballs — transformed through crochet.

These objects, typically associated with performance, competition, and collective triumph, are enveloped and slowed down. Through this gesture, Sophie Inard shifts them from instruments of achievement to fragile forms, suspended between strength and vulnerability.

Crochet introduces a contradiction at the heart of these symbols. What is designed for impact, speed, and victory becomes soft, unstable, and exposed. The series questions the mythology of sport — its heroes, its rituals, its promises of glory — while revealing the emotional and physical tension that underlies the idea of winning.
