BIO
Sophie Inard is a French artist based in Paris.
She transforms objects of power - sports equipment, luxury accessories, tools of combat and labor - by enveloping them in crochet. Both protective and constraining, her textile gesture plays with appearances: softening what is strong, giving strength to what seems fragile, and revealing what usually remains invisible.
Her practice is rooted in care. She collects forgotten objects and offers them a second skin - a poetic act of repair. Her artworks are handmade, often in collaboration with retired women, carrying time, savoir-faire, and conversation into the fabric of each piece.
Through this gesture, she questions symbols of power, but also memory and transmission. By covering everything with the same motif - the “granny square” - she erases hierarchies and highlights the shared mystery that unites all things.
Her works have been shown in France and internationally, including at the McNay Art Museum (San Antonio, Texas) and at the concept store Merci (Paris). She also collaborates with Harley-Davidson Paris, film festivals, and fashion houses.
