Sophie Inard est une artiste française basée à Paris. Elle développe un travail autour des icônes contemporaines - armes, objets de sport, accessoires de luxe - qu’elle détourne pour créer de nouveaux récits. À partir d’images populaires profondément inscrites dans notre mémoire culturelle, elle façonne des objets qui oscillent entre fragilité textile et puissance symbolique.
Son geste consiste à envelopper, recouvrir, protéger : un acte de care qui révèle autrement des objets associés à la violence, à la performance ou au divertissement. En crochetant ces signes du pouvoir, elle brouille leurs codes et installe une ambiguïté qui trouble la perception.
Ses pièces produisent une “inquiétante étrangeté” - ce moment freudien où un objet familier apparaît soudain décalé, perturbant, presque dissident. Une arme devenue douce, un gant de boxe rendu tendre, un ballon de foot fragilisé : autant de glissements qui déplacent nos certitudes.
Dans un monde marqué par une géopolitique anxieuse et des images saturées, son œuvre oppose une douceur insistante à la brutalité des symboles. Une tension affleure : drôle, inquiétante, ambiguë.
Le crochet devient alors un outil critique : léger en apparence, mais capable de susciter malaise, surprise et profondeur. En enveloppant ces icônes du présent, Sophie Inard révèle la déviance de l’objet, la faille dans le symbole, et propose une nouvelle manière de regarder ce que notre société érige comme signes du pouvoir.
Son travail est exposé en France et à l’international, notamment au musée McNay (San Antonio, USA) pour l’exposition Sport & Spectator en 2025 et bientôt au musée Nerman de Kansas City (juin - décembre 2026). Sophie Inard is a French artist based in Paris. She works with contemporary icons - weapons, sports equipment, luxury accessories - which she détournes and reimagines through crochet to create new narratives. Drawing on popular images deeply embedded in our cultural memory, she shapes objects that oscillate between textile fragility and symbolic power.
Her gesture consists in wrapping, covering, protecting: an act of care that reveals objects traditionally associated with violence, performance, or entertainment from a new angle. By crocheting these signs of power, she dissolves their codes and introduces an ambiguity that unsettles perception.
Her works create a sense of the uncanny: that Freudian moment when a familiar object suddenly feels strange, displaced, almost dissident. A weapon made soft, a boxing glove turned tender, a football rendered fragile - each shift destabilizes what we take for granted.
In a world marked by geopolitical anxiety and image saturation, her practice brings a persistent softness into contact with the brutality of contemporary symbols. A subtle tension emerges: humorous, unsettling, ambiguous.

Her work has been exhibited in France and internationally, notably at the McNay Art Museum (San Antonio, USA) for the exhibition Sport & Spectator in 2025, and soon at the Nerman Museum of Contemporary Art in Kansas City (June–December 2026).
